The objective of a good sampling program should be the collection of a “representative” sample of the current ground-water conditions over a known or specified volume of aquifer.
To ensure appropriate methodology and expedient collection of water-quality samples, information is needed before a sample is collected.
Some information should be obtained prior to the start of field activities such as well condition, construction, water-level information, contaminant types and concentrations, and direction(s) of ground-water flow.
